United Teachers Los Angeles Archives, 1962-1992.

The United Teachers-Los Angeles Collection (UTLA) documents the development and achievements of one the nation's leading teacher unions, and its largest merged teacher union. In February 1970 several Los Angeles based teachers associations from the American Federation of Teachers/California Federation of Teachers and National Education Association/California Teachers Association merged to create UTLA.

Donald G. Baer was born July 4, 1915, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, and received his commission as Ensign in 1937. He commanded the USS Fulton in 1957 and 1958, and from 196 to 1967, he commanded the U.S. Naval Base at Subic Bay in the Philippines. He reached the rank of rear admiral in 1965.
